Successful Conclusion of the 2025 International Summer School Program

The 2025 International Summer School (ISS) program was successfully concluded on July 18. This year's ISS invited 184 faculty members from 26 countries and regions to deliver courses or lectures. It featured 8 Global Master Lecture Series sessions, 94 full-English modular courses, and 12 specialized discipline camps. The program attracted 306 students from 24 countries and regions outside the university, along with 2,566 students from our own institution. By gathering high-level faculty from around the world and opening the program to students from our university and other domestic and international institutions, we provided multi-level, high-quality international educational resources. This further strengthened the international dimension of talent cultivation, refined the model for fostering global competencies, and enhanced the overall internationalization of talent development.

I. Continuously Building a High-Level, Multi-Dimensional, and Multi-Tiered Full-English Curriculum System

Renmin University of China actively serves major national strategic needs and responds to the evolving demands of talent cultivation. We continue to advance the implementation of the International Summer School 2.0 Initiative, comprehensively reform the curriculum system, and adhere to the principle of "first-class universities, first-class disciplines, and first-class faculty." By bringing together high-level international faculty, strengthening the supply of quality global educational resources, adding the Global Master Lecture Series, offering full-English modular course clusters, and organizing specialized discipline camps, we have built a high-level, multi-dimensional, and multi-tiered full-English curriculum system. This establishes a high-quality international educational platform, effectively promoting international cooperation and exchange in talent cultivation.

1.Emphasizing Leadership by Masters: Offering the Global Master Lecture Series

During the 2025 International Summer School, the university adhered to the principle of "first-class universities, first-class disciplines, and first-class faculty," continuing to enhance the quality of the ISS through high-caliber instructors and courses. We further developed the Global Master Lecture Series, inviting world-renowned award winners or top experts in various fields to deliver full-English lectures. This provided students with cutting-edge international educational resources, nurtured their academic interests, broadened their global perspectives, and expanded the brand influence and impact of the International Summer School.

From June 30 to July 18, the university invited 8 world-leading experts and scholars to deliver 8 sessions of the Global Master Lecture Series. The lecture topics covered areas such as the application of AI large models and operational optimization, future directions in computing, technology adoption, diffusion and tipping point effects, and concepts of time in Roman and Greek literature. These sessions provided students with high-level, forward-looking, interdisciplinary, and diverse learning resources.

2.Emphasizing Integration of General and Specialized Education: Offering Full-English Modular Course Clusters

In the 2025 International Summer School, the university offered over 90 full-English modular courses covering topics such as Chinese modernization, international affairs and global governance, mutual learning among civilizations and new forms of civilization, disciplinary frontiers, and research methods. The course content focuses on major issues in the development of Chinese modernization, key topics of global concern, classical themes between Chinese and Western civilizations, as well as the latest disciplinary trends and research methodologies. These courses provide students with knowledge, values, theories, and methods that transcend individual disciplines, enabling them to establish connections across different academic fields.

3.Strengthening Academic Training: Offering Discipline-Specific Camps

Discipline-specific camps provide full-English professional academic training for students with relevant disciplinary backgrounds. Activities include course instruction, practical training, and academic research, all designed to enhance students’ professional competence, familiarize them with the latest research advancements in their fields, stimulate their interest in disciplinary scientific inquiry, and support the integrated cultivation of undergraduate and postgraduate education. Furthermore, through university-department collaboration, these camps serve as an effective platform for advancing the internationalization of various disciplines and expanding channels for international cooperation. In the 2025 International Summer School, 12 colleges and schools offered discipline-specific camps to students in related fields. Themes included workshops on frontier topics in international organizations, IMF simulations, artificial intelligence and innovation, empirical research on market analysis and consumer preferences, and interdisciplinary exchange and cross-cultural interaction from the perspective of New Liberal Arts, among others.

II. High Emphasis on Faculty Development: Building a High-Quality International Summer School Teaching Team

The faculty for the International Summer School (ISS) are invited by respective colleges and schools, and subsequently screened and appointed by the university. Adhering to the standard of "first-class universities, first-class disciplines, and first-class faculty," the ISS ensures that instructors for the Global Master Lecture Series are either world-renowned award winners or leading experts in their fields. Faculty for modular courses and discipline camps are typically senior scholars holding advanced positions at top-tier global universities, research institutions, or within their disciplines. In the 2025 ISS, 90.22% of the faculty held the rank of associate professor or higher.

Furthermore, to enhance academic exchange between internal and external faculty, the university encourages its own teachers to collaborate with external instructors in co-teaching courses. An ISS classroom observation and exchange mechanism has also been established, allowing university faculty to attend lectures delivered by external teachers and share teaching insights. During the 2025 ISS, colleges and schools offering specialized discipline camps actively organized joint lectures and academic seminars involving both internal and external faculty. These activities served as carefully designed platforms for teaching and research exchange, fostering international engagement and collaboration among all participating educators.

III. Deepening Cultural Integration and Exchange, Enhancing the Learning and Cultural Experience of the International Summer School

During the 2025 International Summer School, the university actively organized a variety of rich cultural experience activities for both faculty and students. These included visits and study tours to Beijing’s renowned cultural landmarks, as well as events such as traditional Chinese music appreciation sessions. Furthermore, in collaboration with the university museum, the Academic Affairs Office arranged for ISS students to visit the Tongzhou New Campus to view the special exhibition "Thirteen Years in Yan'an and Chinese Modernization." Students were also organized to visit JD.com's Asia No. 1 Beijing 5G Smart Logistics Park, allowing international participants to witness China’s achievements in intelligent manufacturing and technological innovation.

Through these cultural and technological experience activities, the International Summer School provided students with a cross-cultural learning and exchange environment. Students not only gained knowledge but also experienced the unique charm of Chinese culture and the remarkable accomplishments of China’s technological development.
